Our Investigators

Dr. Giacalone, the principal investigator at Curalta Clinical Trials, has been conducting research and clinical studies for the medical and pharmaceutical industry for over 20 years. A nationally recognized speaker, Dr. Giacalone has lectured across the country at medical conferences and meetings on various podiatric medical topics, particularly the prevention and treatment of diabetic foot complications. He has written several medical textbook chapters, published numerous medical papers, research, and articles on a variety of medical topics, and is the editor of the diabetes chapter in the annual textbook The Compendium of Podiatric Surgery.

In private practice since 1990, Dr. Giacalone is double Board Certified by both the American Board of Podiatric Surgery as well as the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. As a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, Dr. Giacalone has served on its national Diabetes Advisory Committee for many years, as well as the chairman of the Northern New Jersey Division. He has served as a board member on the New Jersey Affiliate of the American Diabetes Association. Until recently, Dr. Giacalone also practiced part-time, for many years at the prestigious Hospital for Joint Disease in New York City.

Dr. DiTrolio has been in private practice for over 32 years serving the New York and New Jersey areas. Dr. DiTrolio is a highly respected foot and ankle surgeon trained in the most advanced procedures and has been involved in clinical research for many years. Dr. DiTrolio graduated from The New York College of Podiatric Medicine in 1988 and performed his residency training at the Miami VA Medical Center in Miami, Florida. The VA Medical Center is affiliated with the world-renowned Jackson Memorial Medical Center, a Level 1 trauma center. There, Dr. DiTrolio went on to perfect his techniques in Advanced Diabetic Limb Salvage and reconstructive foot & ankle surgery. He is board certified by both the American Board of Foot & Ankle Surgery and the American Board of Podiatric Medicine.

He utilizes a minimally invasive ultrasound-guided machine (Tenex) and stem cell injection to treat tendon disorders and plantar fasciitis. Dr. DiTrolio has also trained in the use of lasers for the treatment of fungal toenails and warts as well as Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections for the treatment of heel spurs, plantar fasciitis, and Achilles tendonitis. Dr. DiTrolio performs ALL types of foot and ankle procedures such as bunions, hammer toes, foot and ankle fractures, and tendon surgery. He performs the latest bunion techniques such as the Lapiplasty which is a 3D bunion procedure to permanently correct bunion deformities. He is also trained in advanced wound care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO) and is on staff at Hackensack University Medical Center @ Pascack Valley Wound Center where he treats patients with chronic non-healing wounds.

Dr. Greenberg has been in practice for several years. His medical training began at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where he received a B.S. in Exercise Science/Public Health. Dr. Greenberg received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine in 2013 after graduating from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. He received several academic scholarships including the J.T. Tai Scholarship for exemplary academic performance. Dr. Greenberg made the Dean's list every semester. His postdoctoral training was done at Long Island Jewish Medical Center now called Northwell Health. He completed a three-year surgical residency program with training in rearfoot/ankle reconstructive surgery. Dr. Greenberg was fortunate to have opportunities to rotate in many surgical and medical arenas for both adults and pediatrics. This included comprehensive wound care training, trauma surgery, complex fore/rearfoot reconstruction, and sports medicine at Fordham University athletic department. At Fordham University he worked alongside the training department to diagnose and treat all components of foot and ankle patholgies for Division I athletes.

Dr. Greenberg is Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and Board Qualified in foot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. Dr. Greenberg’s interests and training include elective reconstructive surgery, sports medicine, limb salvage, trauma, and diabetic foot care.
